Increasingly, healthcare providers are leveraging technology and automation to ease the strain on a system that’s been put to the test in recent years. Clinical mobility – the use of mobile devices at the point of care – has shown great promise as a solution that can create workflow efficiencies, maximize a provider’s limited resources, and ultimately improve the quality of patient care. Hospitals are ramping up adoption of clinical mobility “by equipping bedside nurses with mobile devices and connecting data from equipment, supplies, and health information systems,” Zebra Technologies explains in its 2022 Hospital Vision Study.
 
The study found that mobile devices are becoming an essential tool for physicians, pharmacists, and lab technicians as well, with adoption rates among those disciplines soaring in recent years.
 
Still, too many organizations in the public and private sectors are equipping their employees with consumer-grade mobile devices that aren’t built for the type of work they’re doing. It’s hard to say what’s driving these decisions – it could be misinformation, the perceived cost savings, familiarity bias, or something else. Regardless, consumer-grade mobility solutions aren’t designed and configured to deliver the appropriate levels of security, functionality, and reliability for mission-critical applications such as healthcare.
